# Image credits

All images in this folder are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and used under
the licences below. This is an independent fan/history project, not an
official Arsenal FC product (see the trademark note in the root
`CLAUDE.md`). Historic crest files are public domain but Commons flags them
with an "insignia" caution: trademark may still apply to the club's actual
badge design even though the image file's copyright has expired, so these
are used here for editorial/historical illustration only.

CC BY / CC BY-SA images require attribution; this table serves as that
attribution. If the site is deployed publicly, keep an accessible credits
page or footer link back to this file/table.

**Player photos must show the player in an Arsenal kit.** Several earlier
candidates were found and then dropped for failing this: a photo of Jimmy
Jackson in Newcastle's kit, Eddie Hapgood shirtless with no kit visible,
Frank Stapleton in a suit signing for Ajax, Pat Jennings and Kenny Sansom in
ordinary clothes decades after retiring, and Michael Thomas in a Liverpool
"Legends" shirt. Each of those players' entries in `src/data/players.ts`
carries a `noPhotoNote` explaining specifically why, rather than silently
falling back to the generic "no photograph survives" copy, which would have
been inaccurate for players a photo does exist of.

**`crest-2002-official.png` and `crest-2011-anniversary.png` are not from
Wikimedia Commons** and carry no free licence. They are Arsenal FC's
official current crest and the 2011/12 125th-anniversary variant,
reproduced here for editorial/historical identification on an independent,
non-commercial fan site. Both remain the copyright/registered trademark of
Arsenal Football Club; see the trademark note in the root `CLAUDE.md` and
the footer's non-affiliation disclaimer.
