A commanding, fiercely competitive German international goalkeeper, Lehmann kept goal throughout the unbeaten Invincibles season, conceding just 26 goals in 38 games. He was sent off in the 2006 Champions League Final against Barcelona (still the only player ever dismissed in that fixture) as Arsenal lost 2–1 despite playing over an hour with ten men.
