Jimmy Jackson

A photo of Jackson survives from his earlier spell at Newcastle United (1897–98), but it shows him in Newcastle's kit, not Arsenal's, so it isn't used here: no individual photo from his Arsenal years (1899–1905) is known to exist.
Born in Scotland to a footballing family (his brother Andrew won caps for Scotland, and both of Jackson's sons later became professionals too) he had already played for Newcastle United and Rangers by the time he joined Woolwich Arsenal in 1899. He was a near-ever-present through the promotion-winning 1903–04 season and captained the side in its first-ever First Division campaign.
