Signed from Northampton Town in May 1902 and finished his first season as top scorer with 17 goals, then bettered it with 23 in 28 games as he and Tommy Shanks shot the club up into the First Division. Coleman won his single England cap against Ireland in February 1907, and was sold to Everton for £700 the following February, when the club needed the money more than it needed the goals.
