The Chapman Revolution, from 1925
David Jack
Forward1928–1934
No individual photograph is known to survive for David Jack; see the note on the players index for why we use a plain card rather than guess.
Jack's move from Bolton Wanderers in October 1928 made him the first footballer in the world transferred for a fee over £10,000: reportedly negotiated by Chapman in a hotel bar while keeping a clear head as Bolton's representatives got progressively drunker. He justified every penny of it, finishing his first season as the club's top scorer with 25 goals in 31 games.
