Vaessen scored one of the great goals in the club's European history at just 18: a stoppage-time header in Turin that knocked holders Juventus out of the 1980 Cup Winners' Cup, the first time Juventus had lost to a British side at home. Serious knee ligament damage forced him to retire before he turned 21, cutting short what had promised to be a special career.
