George Armstrong in Arsenal kit, holding the FA Cup after the 1971 win over Liverpool that completed the Double

Toward the Double, 1960–1971

George Armstrong

Midfielder1962–1977

A tireless, hugely popular left-winger nicknamed "Geordie", Armstrong made more appearances for Arsenal than anyone else in the club's history at the time of his retirement. It was his cross, chipped back in from the goal-line, that Ray Kennedy headed home for the title-winning goal at Tottenham in the Double season. He later returned to the club as a coach for over a decade.
