Signed from Exeter City as a teenager, Bastin became Arsenal's record goalscorer for over seventy years: a mark that stood until Ian Wright finally passed it in 1997. Predominantly a left-winger who cut inside to shoot, he won five League titles and two FA Cups across an eighteen-year Arsenal career interrupted by the Second World War.
